Joining

How does one join the crew?

Joining requires a short form and nothing else. There is no fee, no audition and no waiting list; there is only a seat and, on your first evening, a Guide.

Four stages

What happens after the form is sent?

  1. A reply

A Warden writes to you within a few days, in plain words, answers any question you asked and suggests an evening that suits a first visit. The reply includes the invitation to the chat server, and a note of who will meet you at the door and what they will be wearing.

  2. A first evening

On arrival you are met at the door, introduced to a Guide and given tea. A short game or demonstration follows, chosen to suit whatever you said you were curious about.

  3. A table of your own

After a visit or two, a Guide helps you to find a campaign or a strategy table with room for you. You are never placed in a story that has already reached its crisis.

  4. A place in the guild

After a season you become a Companion, and the guild asks only that you do for the next newcomer what was done for you. That is the entire cost of membership, and it is a cost that the guild has never found anyone unwilling to pay.

“I was afraid I would be the only person who did not know the rules. Within ten minutes I had a seat, a guide and a character, and nobody had asked me what I knew.”

Who is joining us?

We ask for a name, an email address and a word about what interests you. Everything else is optional, and nothing you write here is shown to other members. If you would rather tell us in person, say so, and we shall complete the form with you at the door.
