Arriving

Where may a car be left?

Cars may be left on Tuckey Street and the streets near it. We ask visitors to keep driveways clear, to be considerate of the neighbours and, on Tuesday evenings, to park in the accountant's car park only if a Warden has said that it is available.

Those who arrive by public transport should telephone beforehand, and we shall describe the walk from the nearest stop. Those who cycle will find a rail by the front door, and a Warden can show where to bring a bicycle indoors in poor weather.

Practical matters

What else may a visitor need to know?

May I telephone during the day?

You may, but the telephone is answered by volunteers, chiefly in the evenings. If nobody replies, please leave a message or send an email and a Warden will return the call at a convenient hour.

What if I arrive after the evening has begun?

You are welcome at any time before the second session starts. Ring the bell, give your name and a Warden will bring you in without interrupting the table.

What happens in bad weather?

The house remains open in rain and wind. In the event of a severe storm warning we may close early, and a notice is placed in the chat server and on the telephone message.

Is there somewhere to leave a coat or bag?

Yes. There are hooks by the front door and shelves beneath the map wall. Valuables are best kept with you, as a guild of friendly adults is still a room full of strangers.

Whom should I ask for?

Ask for the Warden on duty, who will be wearing a green lanyard. If I am at the door I shall introduce myself; my name is Graham, and I should be glad to meet you.
